Perhaps you grew up going to church your whole life. Or maybe you’ve never been to one before. Either way, what if church wasn’t a place you went? What if it wasn’t about a religious thing you did once a week? What if it was something different altogether?  In fact here’s a radical idea for you:

Stop going to church.

In the Bible, the church has never been a place you went to or a service you attended. That’s because the church is not a building or an event. So then the question is, if you can’t go to church, what can you do?

Start being the church.

Biblically, church is not what we do, but rather who we are. It’s not a place we go; it’s a family we belong to. The church has always been and always will be a people; a people who have received the grace of God and have been brought into community with Jesus and with one another; a group of sinners who are being transformed by the gospel and given a new identity that that they might love the world and each other like Jesus; a family whose members believe, grow, worship, serve, witness, give, unite, lead, follow, and live accountable with one another as they look to God as their Father and each other as brothers and sisters. It’s not a group of perfect people, no family is. But Jesus loves the church, gave His life for the church, and is eternally committed to the church!

This fall at Seven Mile Road, we’re trying to remember that we don’t just go to church; we are the church. Join us as we discover what that means.
